"Harrison Bergeron" is a short story about a fourteen year old boy whose name is Harrison Bergeron who tries to become a emperor of a society. The society that Harrison tries to become Emperor in is a equal society which is a society where everybody is made equal. The rulers of the society made everybody equal by giving people handicaps. For example, if someone had better eye-sight than the average person that person would have to wear blurry glasses so their eye sight would be equal with everybody else. Eventually Harrison is killed by the ruler of the society and since people have handicaps on they don't remember what happened.
I liked how the author thought of this story and how he played out all of the details for the people and how Harrison was killed. Overall I thought this story was very weird and I am glad a society of people being equal to each other does not exist in the world.
Charles, I agree I am glad this kind of a society doesn't exist. I also agree that this story was weird. I did not like how it ended, I thought it was pretty depressing. I did not like or even get how they justified killing Harrison. A weird short story for sure.
ReplyDeleteThis is a pretty accurate description of the story, Charles. I definitely thought it was weird also.
