Free Post: Breakfast

You get out of bed on a sunny Sunday morning and start walking to the kitchen. You soon arrive at the kitchen and go into the fridge looking for waffles. Once you open up the fridge and look for the delicious waffles your jaw drops first. Nothing is in the fridge because you forgot to go to Walmart yesterday. Your stomach is starting to growl and your thinking of a place to go where they have great waffles. All of a sudden you thought of a restaurant that makes waffles superior to all other waffle making restaurants, Waffle House.

You get in your car and head straight to Waffle House. You get there in five minutes and park the car. You race walk in trying to get a table as soon as possible. You look around and find an extra table in the corner and sit down and wait for the waitress to take your order. You browse through the menu and find the "Allstar" that comes with a waffle, eggs, hashbrowns, toast, and bacon and it only cost $6.48. The waitress comes over and you tell you want the "Allstar" and she says "alright". The waitress brings the "Allstar" about seven minutes later and you devour all of it. You pay your bill and leave to go to Walmart for groceries.

Literary Analysis Update

I am doing alright with my literary analysis so far. I am working with my third thesis so far and it is about the main cause of why the Ralph and Jack split into two different groups. I am on the second page out of four. I think my quotes that I have so far are good and back up my thesis pretty well.

The most difficult thing to me so far about writing this analysis is the right thesis. It has taken me three tries to find the best one I can think of and I think I have found with my thesis now. The easiest thing to me so far about writing this analysis is finding the quotes. Once I got my thesis I knew right away what parts of the story I wanted to use and that would back up my thesis. This is where I am with my literary analysis work.

Symbolism

It was Christmas eve and Tina Jefferson was leaving the house to go out with her friend Brian. Tina's dad was yelling at her because he was saying that it is Christmas eve and you shouldn't be out. Tina didn't listen and went to go meet Brian at the restaurant anyway. Once Tina got to the restaurant she spotted Brian at a booth. She walked over and sat down across from him. He asked how she was doing and she said she was doing fine. The waiter came by and Tina and Brian placed their order. Then Brian started talking about his boss and Tina started to be less interested because she saw a family at the table behind Brian. She soon realized she made a mistake about leaving her family on Christmas eve to go out and have dinner with a friend. Tina said she had to go and went home to be with her family.

The symbolic message in this story is that family comes first. Tina realized she needed to see her parents because they won't be around forever and you only get so many Christmas'. This is the overall message of the story.

How To

Imagine you're in a basketball game and you have the ball and your going to the rim. Your just about to make the shot three feet away from the rim until a defender fouls you. You miss the shot but you go to the free throw to shoot two shots. I am about to tell you good mechanics of shooting free throws.

First, you line yourself up at the free throw line with your feet should about shoulder-width apart. Make sure you don't pass the free throw line when you shoot. Second, after the referee has given you the ball you hold the ball in your shooting form and get ready to shoot. Third, you shoot the ball and make sure you hold your release and put back spin on the ball. This will hopefully help you be a better free throw shooter.

Free Post: Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is probably my second favorite time of the year after Christmas. I love eating great food and visiting with my family. I also enjoy having a week off of school.

Every year I go to my aunt and uncle's house on my Dad's side of the family to go eat Thanksgiving their. My aunt makes a good corn casserole and Cranberry dressing. Almost everybody from my Dad's side of the family is there to visit. After I eat and visit with my Dad's side of the family, my Dad takes me to go meet my Mom somewhere and my Mom takes my brother and me to her parents house in Pass Christian, Mississippi for Thanksgiving, where I usually say high to my relatives and just play with my cousins since I've already eaten. This is what I do for my Thanksgiving holiday.

LOFT Critical Scene

A critical scene in Lord of the Flies that I think that matters to the novel in a critical way is Piggy's death and the conch breaking on page 181. I think this is such a critical scene because this was such a dramatic scene in the book, a death of a main character, and the end of a symbolic item. What I think we need to understand from this scene is that this scene is very important and places a role for the rest of the book.

What I think readers need to notice from this scene is that Jack has became a complete savage with putting a defensive system with boulders and trying to kill Ralph. What I think readers need to ask questions about on this scene is why Jack has become so obsessed with killing. I think this scene is important as a whole to the novel is that this scene is has so much drama in it because Piggy as been in the novel since Chapter 1 and the conch became the symbolic object that united all the boys in the first place and both Piggy and the conch are now dead now. This is why I think this scene is critical to the novel

Prompt

Prompt: What and describe the most memorable moment that has happened in your life so far and why is memorable.

The most memorable moment in my life so far is when I went to Chicago earlier this year. I stayed in Chicago for the LSU v.s Wisconsin game in Green Bay, Wisconsin. I had lots of fun on this trip going to the LSU game and going to see the Chicago Cubs who won the World Series this year. I also had lots of fun by just sight seeing Chicago.

The reason this memory is very memorable is maybe because I went to a very historic football field or went to a very famous city. To me the most significant reason why this memory is memorable is because I went on this trip with my mom who has n't been on a trip with me in a long time. This is why this memory is memorable to me.

LOFT Reading Response

The section in chapter 8 that I read and analyzed was the part on page 91. This section in chapter 8 describes how Jack is starting to be unhappy with Ralph and his rules. Jack is starting to believe that he can be a better leader than Ralph and just wants to hunt. Jack is also realizing that Ralph doesn't do anything but tell rules to the other boys while he goes out and hunts and offers protection to the other boys.

I think Jack is over reacting because I think Ralph is doing a good job with the island by making a shelter and fire. Jack keeps thinking about hunting but Ralph is thinking about the ultimate goal which is going home. If I was Ralph I would let Jack go off to his own spot on the island, which he eventually does, because Jack only thinks about hunting and nothing else while Ralph has all the rules and the fire. This is what I think about this section in this part of The Lord of the Flies.

Reading Response to Lord of the Flies

I am currently on Chapter 3 in Lord of the Flies. The book's narrator started off a little confusing but I got it figured out. The book has an interesting story line and setting. The story also has interesting characters.

This book has been interesting to me so far. I like how the author is using human nature in this story. For example, Jack is starting to have a rivalry with Piggy and it is becoming a big part in the story. This is what I think of Lord of the Flies so far.

Lord of the Flies Human Nature

My thoughts about human nature are that humans are full of possibility. What I mean from this is that all humans can choose what they can do with their life. All humans have the possibility to be good, bad, and loving.

What led me to this belief was that I see this everyday. I see parents and kids loving each other, I see people being good to their elders, and I see bad things like kids not respecting their parents. All of these characteristics can change because humans are full of possibility. This is what I think human nature is.

Fall Break Free Post

This fall break was pretty boring for me. I stayed at home basically the whole time watching T.V and playing my Playstation. I only went out of my house to go to basketball practice on Thursday morning and to eat out a couple of times.

Overall I think think this Fall Break was okay. I had fun watching the LSU football game and playing the playstation with my brother. I wish I could've gotten out of the house more and did more active activities. All in all I had a pretty good time on my couch this Fall Break.

Reading Response Quarter 2 Week 1

This past week I got to chapter 31 in my independent reading book Fake ID. So far the book is still interesting to me to this point. I like how the author is now using characters that started out with less important roles now with bigger roles. I also like how the author is still keeping the mystery and drama in the book. What I don't like what the author is doing is that he is not staying with the main idea of the story and keeps adding unimportant information that is not relevant to the main cause of the story.

I think the author is going to keep the drama and the mystery in the book. I also hope too read more detail involving Nick's dad's job. And also how the author plans to describe the events that already have happened but not have been described and how the friendship between Nick and Reya will play a part in the main idea of the story.

Response to Article

The article "Should We Abandon Louisiana?" by Zach Kopplin is about Louisiana after the flooding in August and what Louisiana residents should do. The disaster left 13 dead and about 40,000 homes destroyed.  Kopplin writes about the struggle of the people who lost their homes and what they should do. Kopplin also writes how there was a lack of social media covering the flood unlike Hurricane Sandy.

The biggest point to me that Kopplin writes about is that "we should rebuild Louisiana." Kopplin writes that lots of people have given up on their homes and don't have the money to rebuild their homes. I think we should not rebuild Louisiana because of the culture and the history that Louisiana has. I also think the government should help out with the people that have lost their homes due to the flood. Overall I think this was a well written passage and I think Louisiana will overcome the flood.

Free Response Week 6

From the beginning of September to late January is one of the greatest times of the year for me because it is college football season. I like waking up on a Saturday morning watching College Football Game Day. I like going outside to throw the football with my brother in my front yard. The greatest thing I like about college football is watching LSU.

This year LSU had great expectations but so far they have come up short. Lots of people had LSU winning the National Championship this year but I think we can't now. LSU has lost to Wisconsin and Auburn by less than a touchdown. Last night LSU beat Missouri 42-7 without their star running back Leonard Fournette. LSU's record now is 3-2 and hopefully they could win the rest of their games and maybe make it to the College Football Playoff.

Reading Response Week 6

This past week I got to chapter 27 in my independent reading book Fake ID. So far the book is still interesting to me to this point. I like how the author is now using characters that started out with less important roles now with bigger roles. I also like how the author is still keeping the mystery and drama in the book. What I don't like what the author is doing is that he is not staying with the main idea of the story and keeps adding unimportant information.

100-200 Word Story

Phil woke up at 6:45. After Phil turned off the alarm clock he stood up and said “I’m gonna get the promotion at the bank”. He walked to the bathroom were he showered and brushed his teeth. After Phil got out of the bathroom he walked to the kitchen to eat his breakfast which was a chocolate pop tart. Phil woofed down his pop tart and got in his car to go to work. He arrived at 7:58, two minutes early. He got out of his car and met eyes with his rival, Gary. They both walked in together and Gary said “may the best man win” because the promotion was between them too. The manager, Brennan, called everybody's attention to announce who got the promotion. Brennan said that Gary got the promotion and Phil became very jealous. When Gary walked to Brennan to shake his hand a robber burst through the door and pointed the gun at Gary, when Phil saw this he didn't know what made him do this but he ran towards Gary and took the bullet for him. The robber ran away but Phil would be remembered as a hero.

Harrison Bergeron

"Harrison Bergeron" is a short story about a fourteen year old boy whose name is Harrison Bergeron who tries to become a emperor of a society. The society that Harrison tries to become Emperor in is a equal society which is a society where everybody is made equal. The rulers of the society made everybody equal by giving people handicaps. For example, if someone had better eye-sight than the average person that person would have to wear blurry glasses so their eye sight would be equal with everybody else. Eventually Harrison is killed by the ruler of the society and since people have handicaps on they don't remember what happened.

I liked how the author thought of this story and how he played out all of the details for the people and how Harrison was killed. Overall I thought this story was very weird and I am glad a society of people being equal to each other does not exist in the world.

Message for six-month year olds

It was always fun to be a six-month year old. People would carry you around everywhere. People would feed you. People would also change you. This is why being a six-month year old is awesome.

If you were a six-year old, you could throw up on people and they wouldn't get mad at you. You would never have to use a toilet. You may not like people feeding you carrots or making you learn how to use a toilet and thats why I'm telling you guys not to do those things. Keep letting people carry you around and feeding you because you may want that one day when your older so keep being lazy as long as you can.

Reading Response

This week I got to chapter 18. I had just gotten to some of the drama and mystery parts of the book. I started getting more detail about the town that Nick is in.

A thing that happened in the book was that Eli died. I like how the author did this because in an earlier chapter Eli was talking to Nick about how weird a place this town is. When Nick was thinking why Eli died he thought back to that conversation they had and he was starting to piece together why he had died. This is what I read this past week.

Fake Id Reading response 2

This week I got to chapter 11 in my independent reading book. I started getting into some of the more interesting parts of the book. I started getting into some more detail of what Nick's Dad's job is and what he is doing. Also, Nick is trusting Eli more instead of not really talking to him at first.

Something that I liked that the author did was that he made the book more interesting and mysterious by making Nick's Dad's job mysterious. The author keeps making Nick's Dad more and more mysterious by writing that he isn't at the house that much and he never says where his Dad is going. This is what I read this past week for Independent Reading.

Hurricane Katrina

On August 23, 2005 Hurricane Katrina formed in the Bahamas. Katrina is ranked as the third most intense United States landfalling tropical cyclone. The death rate was from about 1,245-1,836 people. The total damage in dollars was $108 billion, which is the most on record.

Hurricane Katrina affected the Bahamas, Cuba, Louisiana (especially New Orleans), Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. New Orleans was the most affected out of all these other places. The main reason New Orleans' death rate was so high because the levy had broke and caused mass flooding. This is why Hurricane Katrina is one of the most deadliest tragedies in America history.

Trip To Chicago

This past labor day weekend I took a trip to go see the LSU v.s Wisconsin football game in Green Bay, Wisconsin. I checked out early on Thursday and headed toward New Orleans with my Mom, brother, and my Mom’s friend and his children. We had to go to Atlanta from New Orleans then to Chicago from Atlanta. We arrived at the Omni Hotel at about 10:30 and went to bed at 12:00 waiting for tomorrow.

On Friday I woke up waiting for the day to start because today I got to go see a Chicago Cubs game with my brother and Mom. After I ate I went back to the room and cited till it was 12:30. Once it was 12:30 we got in the car and headed off to Wrigley Field. it was a good game. The Cubs’ starting pitcher John Lester threw a great game only allowing 3 hits in Cubs’ win 2-1. After the game we went back to the hotel and went in the pool to play football. After that we all went to go eat at a restaurant. After that we went back home waiting for the big game tomorrow.

We had to get up early and head to Green Bay to make sure we would get there in time for the game at 2:30. We arrived at Green Bay at about 1:00 so we walked around the stadium a little bit and when it was time for kickoff we all were very excited but I didn't leave the stadium very excited because LSU had lost to Wisconsin 16-14.

The next day we just walked around Chicago site seeing and went to Dave and Busters for dinner. On Monday we woke up and flew home from Chicago.

Fake ID by Lama Giles

The choice book I am reading right now is Fake ID by Lamar Giles. I am only on chapter 6 so far so the book hasn't gotten to the main causes to the story. All I’ve gotten to is the characters names and some of the backstory of the main character (Nick Pearson).

Somethings that stood out were that Nick’s father is in the secret services and they have to keep moving from city to city trying to  ind the guy Nick’s Dad is after. Since Nick’s Dad has taken to long to find the person he will be fired from the service. This is what has stood out to me from the first 5 chapters.

Fake ID by Walter Sorrells Reading Response

One of my choice books for summer reading was Fake ID by Walter Sorrells. I thought this book was good because I liked the story line the book followed and the mystery the author added to the book. I liked how the author demonstrated the struggle and depression of how hard it is to try to find your Mom after she went missing.  I also liked how the author showed all aspects of the situation when the main character, Chastity, lost her mother unexpectedly.

Some things I didn't like what the author did was that the author added unimportant information that didn't involve Chastity finding her mother. Another thing I didn't like was how the author placed the sequences of events. The author sometimes jumped from one place to another without giving that much information to why the author made that choice.

All in all  this book was a good read and I would recommend it to somebody who who likes mysterious and detective stories.
